Freeman International Institute's faculty.
Cognitive therapy (CT) or cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) was
developed in the 1960’s by psychiatrist Aaron Beck MD. Dr. Beck
originally developed cognitive therapy as a short term treatment for
depression. Short term or Brief Therapy has since undergone
numerous researchers have expanded the range of problems
treated with this type of psychotherapy.
Dr. Arthur Freeman was one of the Founding Fellows of the
Academy of Cognitive Therapy and was a major part of the
development of Cognitive Therapy in the early 1980's under the
mentorship of Drs. Aaron T. Beck and Albert Ellis. He and his
wife, Dr. Sharon Morgillo Freeman have worked to create training
programs that includes all of the components that are critical to
integrated, holistic and caring psychotherapy treatment.
Dr. Sharon Morgillo Freeman is an Advanced Practice Clinical
Nurse Specialist with Doctoral level training in Sociology,
Psychopharmacology and Neurobiology. In addition she has
Master's degrees in Nursing and Psychology with Advanced
Practice Certifications in Addiction Treatment and as a Prescribing
Advanced Practice Nurse. She is Certified by the Academy of
Cognitive Therapy as a Cognitive Therapist.
